Product marketing agency ten B2B firms, compared

A product marketing agency decides how your product is positioned, writes the message that follows from it, and gets that message into launches, sales calls and your website.

This page compares ten product marketing firms and consultancies for B2B tech that we checked on their own websites on October 16, 2026, with prices where they publish them.

It also covers the five jobs product marketing covers (positioning, launches, sales enablement, competitive intelligence, pricing and packaging), which kind of firm is best at each, and what it costs compared with hiring.

Positioning sits first. Launches, enablement, competitive work and pricing all depend on it.

01/ the service

What a product marketing agency does and where it stops

Product marketing sits between product, marketing and sales.

It decides who the product is for, what it beats, and why that matters, then turns that into words every team uses.

A product marketing agency does that work for you, as a project or on retainer.

The work splits into five jobs: positioning and messaging, launches, sales enablement, competitive intelligence and pricing and packaging.

Few firms are equally good at all five.

A positioning studio, a launch agency and a pricing consultancy are different businesses, and the firm list below is grouped by what each one actually sells.

Most B2B teams hire one because they have nobody to do it.

In Product Marketing Alliance's 2025 survey, 44.3% of product marketing teams were one or two people.

In its 2026 data, around 74% of PMM teams have five or fewer people and 70% of PMM leaders manage no direct reports.

Product marketing agency, firm or consultant: what is the difference?

A product marketing consultant is usually one senior person who advises and writes; you get their judgment, not a team.

A product marketing firm or consultancy runs a fixed method with a small team, often as a sprint.

A product marketing agency adds production: website copy, decks, launch campaigns, design.

A product marketing strategy agency is the same thing sold strategy-first.

Ask who will do the work, and what you will have in your hands at the end.

Product marketing does not usually own demand generation or SEO.

For those, see SaaS marketing agencies and demand generation agencies.

03/ context

Why teams bring in outside help the job keeps growing

Product Marketing Alliance reports that 91% of product marketers own positioning and messaging, 78.7% sales enablement and 65.2% competitive intelligence.

Sales enablement alone jumped from 64% to nearly 79% in a year.

Small teams, wide remits.

The same survey body found 55% of product marketing leaders say other teams still don't fully understand what their function does.

An agency is often how a stretched team buys focused time on the one job that matters this quarter.

Nobody paid to appear here.

We list firms whose core offer is product marketing work for B2B tech companies: positioning and messaging, launches, sales enablement, buyer and competitive research, or pricing and packaging.

Software platforms and courses are excluded.

Prices appear only where a firm publishes them on its own website.

Results quoted on firm sites, including client testimonials, are their claims, not ours.

05/ positioning

How good firms do positioning five components, in order

Most serious positioning work follows a version of April Dunford's method from Obviously Awesome.

Ask any agency how its process compares.

Start with competitive alternatives

Dunford's starting point is what customers would do if your product didn't exist.

That includes doing nothing, a spreadsheet, or an intern, not just named competitors.

Dunford's books are the standard reference; her site says Obviously Awesome has sold over 100,000 copies.

Messaging, taglines and website copy come after positioning, not before.

If an agency starts with the tagline, ask why.

06/ launches

What a product launch agency runs before, during and after

A launch is a short burst of attention on a long sales motion.

The firms worth paying plan the weeks after launch day as carefully as the day itself.

Decide how big the launch is

The signal

A feature, a product, or a new market entry

The play

Tier the launch (for example tier 1 to 3) so effort matches impact.

Not every release needs a press push.

Owner: Product marketing and product

For the wider plan a launch sits inside, see GTM strategy and what is GTM.

A flow diagram with positioning at the left feeding messaging, which branches into launches, sales enablement, website, and outbound and ads, all converging on pipeline at the right, with a feedback loop from win/loss back to positioning.
Positioning feeds messaging; messaging feeds every channel; win/loss evidence feeds back into positioning.

07/ sales and competition

Sales enablement and competitive intelligence where positioning meets deals

Positioning that never reaches a sales call is a slide.

Enablement is the delivery: a pitch narrative, talk tracks, objection handling and battlecards that reps actually use.

Gartner reports that B2B buyers are 1.8 times more likely to complete a high-quality deal when they use supplier digital tools together with a sales rep, and that 75% of B2B buyers prefer a rep-free sales experience.

Both your site and your reps need the same story.

Competition is rising.

In Crayon's 2026 survey, 57.5% of teams said more of their deals are competitive than a year ago, and 49.6% saw their competitive win rate increase.

Crayon sells competitive intelligence software, so read its numbers with that in mind.

The best input for battlecards is buyers themselves.

Win/loss interviews tell you why you actually lost, which is rarely what the rep wrote in the CRM.

Firms like Cascade Insights in the list above run them for you.

Compare with hiring. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median annual wage for marketing managers at $166,790 (May 2025).

That is a broad category, not product marketers specifically, and excludes benefits and recruiting cost.

A positioning sprint costs a fraction of a year's salary, but it does not replace someone who owns the story after the agency leaves.

What drives price: company stage, the number of products and segments, whether the firm interviews your customers itself, and how many finished assets you need.

09/ options

Product marketing agency vs hiring three ways to get the work done

Agency or consultancyIn-house product marketer
Speed to first outputWeeks: sprints run two to four weeksMonths: hiring, then onboarding
Depth on your productBorrowed; relies on your team for customer knowledgeBuilds over time; sits in every product meeting
Cost shapeProject fee or retainerSalary, benefits and recruiting
Best forA positioning reset, a launch, a pricing reviewContinuous launches, enablement and roadmap input

→ Use an agency for the decision, a person to keep it alive. Many teams do both, in that order.

10/ choosing

Which product marketing firm fits? pick your problem

What is the most urgent product marketing problem right now?

Positioning studio

Hire a positioning sprint

A fixed two to four week process ending in a positioning decision and homepage copy.

Fast, and priced by stage.

  • ✓ FletchPMM, Troubadour, Inflection
  • ✓ Bring sales call recordings
  • ✓ Expect several options, then one decision

Risk: a sprint relies on your customer knowledge. Weak inputs, weak positioning.

11/ before you sign

How to choose a product marketing agency eight questions to ask

01

Who does the work?

Named people, their product marketing roles before consulting, and whether juniors take over after the pitch.

02

Where does the evidence come from?

Customer interviews, win/loss, sales calls, or only a workshop with your team.

FletchPMM, for one, says plainly that it does not interview your customers.

03

How many positioning options will we see?

Good firms show several and explain the trade-offs before you choose one.

04

What do we get at the end?

A positioning document, a messaging framework, homepage copy, a deck, battlecards.

Ask for samples.

05

How does it reach sales?

Training, talk tracks and a way to check reps use them.

Otherwise the work stays in a folder.

06

Have you worked in our market?

Enterprise security and SMB SaaS sell differently.

Ask for work with similar buyers and deal sizes.

07

How will we know it worked?

Agree measures before you start: win rate, sales cycle, demo-to-close, homepage conversion.

08

What happens after?

Ongoing support, check-ins, or a clean handover to your team.

12/ walk away

Red flags in a product marketing proposal what we would question

Tagline first

Dunford is clear that messaging, branding and copy come after positioning, not before.

A proposal that opens with taglines skips the hard part.

No buyer evidence

Positioning built only from internal opinion sounds good in the office and fails in the market.

One option, presented as obvious

Most products can be positioned several ways.

If you only see one, you don't know what you gave up.

Deliverables nobody uses

A 100-slide deck no rep opens.

Ask how the work gets into live deals.

Pricing advice without data

Simon-Kucher's own guidance is that the price metric, how you charge, matters more than how much.

Opinions on price levels alone are not a pricing project.

Results claimed, not shown

Testimonials on firm sites are claims.

Ask to speak to a client with a similar problem.

13/ GTM Quest

How GTM Quest handles product marketing positioning carried into pipeline

We do the positioning and ICP work, then build the channels that put it in front of buyers, on Neon Postgres, Clay and Claude Code.

Best-fit customers, the alternatives you beat, and the value that matters to them. One decision, written down.

    WEEKS 1 TO 2
  3. 03

    Messaging into assets

Homepage sections, the founder's LinkedIn themes, outbound openers and a short sales narrative from the same source.

LinkedIn content and ads, and signal-led outbound in Clay to accounts that match the ICP.
