What a Clay expert does and which Clay we mean
This page is about Clay (clay.com), the go-to-market data platform.
It is not about the medical consultancy called Clay Consulting, or the design agency also called Clay.
Clay the platform pulls data from 150+ providers into one table, adds AI research, and pushes the result into your CRM, sequencer or ad accounts.
A Clay expert designs and builds those tables and workflows for you.
In practice that means deciding which accounts and people matter, which data sources to try in which order, which signals should trigger action, what the AI columns should research, and where each record ends up.
Most Clay experts now call themselves GTM engineers.
The skill is half data, half sales: knowing what a good lead looks like matters as much as knowing Clay's features.
Our GTM engineer page covers the role in depth.
Clay expert, Clay consultant, Clay agency: what is the difference?
The labels overlap.
A Clay consultant (in the Clay.com sense) is usually one person who designs or audits your setup and trains your team.
A Clay agency or studio builds and often runs the system with a team.
A Clay expert can be either; Clay's own directory lists both individuals and agencies.
Ask whether you are buying advice, a build you keep, or a team that runs it.
